Tally / Questions
Questions, answered.
Everything coaches and club directors ask before their first practice. Something missing? Write to [email protected].
Was this called PassTracker?
Yes. PassTracker is now Tally Volleyball, as of November 2026. It is the same app: your account, your teams, your sessions and every stat came with it, and you sign in exactly as before. If the web address ever changes, your old links, bookmarks and Home Screen app will keep working, and you will hear about it ahead of time.
How does Tally rate each touch?
One tap. During the rally you tap the button for the touch that just happened: 0 to 3 for a pass, 0 to 4 for a serve, error, hit or kill for an attack, dig or dig error. There is no player to pick first, because on the match court every player carries their own buttons. Averages, in-system percentage and the rankings update as you tap.
What does Tally track?
Four skills. Serving on five points (error, easy, fair, hard, ace), passing on the usual 0 to 3, hitting as kills, errors and attempts with hitting percentage and kill rate, and digs as a count, a dig or a dig error. In a match it also keeps the score, the rotation and how each point was scored, by both teams. You choose which skills your program tracks, and the ones you turn off never appear.
Can one coach read the stats while another tracks?
Yes. Any phone, iPad or laptop can open the Board or the Map. The Board is a read-only second screen: the score, how each rotation is scoring, every player's line and who to serve next. The Map shows where the other team's kills land and who is hitting them. Neither logs anything, so two devices never count a rally twice, and both catch up with the court in about two seconds.
What does player development include?
Testing days for height, standing reach, standing and approach jumps, and serve and spike speed, or any measure of your own. Tally works out every vertical, compares each jump with your net, and marks every new best. Each player also gets a short list of what they are working on, from 106 standard issues or your own words, with the drill, the cue and a goal with a date.
How does a testing day work with several coaches?
Pick what you are measuring and run it by station or by player. Each coach takes a station on their own phone, every try lands on the same testing day, and each pad shows who else is measuring. The pad asks for the foot, then the inch, then a half if there is one, and moves to the next player in line on its own.
How does opponent scouting work?
After you rate one of your serves, tap the opponent jersey number that received it, or ignore the question. Tally weighs an ace above an out-of-system pass, compares each receiver with the rest of their own side, and marks the one your serve is hurting. The Board then names who to serve now, and who to serve meanwhile when that player is in the front row.
Does it work with no signal in the gym?
Yes. Every tap is saved on your device first, so it keeps working on bad gym wifi or no signal at all, and it syncs the moment you are back online.
Can I try it without signing up?
Yes. Try a sample team opens a sample match and practice you can tap through on any device, with no account or email. It is kept for two days, and if you create an account from inside it, the team and everything you tried stays.
Is Tally free?
It is free while we finish the beta, with no credit card. When paid plans start, every beta team gets at least 30 days' notice, there will be a free plan for one team, and you can export all of your data at any time.
Can parents and players see stats without an account?
Yes. Share a read-only leaderboard link that anyone can open with no account. Open the same link on the gym TV and it fills the screen and updates itself between drills. You can turn a link off at any time.
Can several coaches track the same team at once?
Yes. A practice can run up to seven courts in one session, each with its own group of players, so two coaches on two nets tap into two lists and nothing collides. Invite your whole staff with one link and set each coach as admin, editor or viewer.
What is the difference between a match and a practice?
You pick the type when you make the session, and Tally opens the right screen. A match gets the live court, the score and the rotation, and is divided into sets. A practice gets player cards and is divided into courts. The stats underneath are the same, so there is no mode to remember.
Can I give my stats to ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Export for AI, in any session's menu, writes one file built for an AI assistant: the scales, the sets and scores, every player's numbers by set and by rotation, the opponent scout, and every touch in order with its time. The file is yours, and Tally never trains on your data.
What is a good serve-receive passing average?
On the 0 to 3 scale, a team average around 2.0 is solid at the club and high school level, and 2.3 or higher is strong. Tally also shows your in-system percentage, the share of passes good enough to run your full offense.
Does it work on a phone, an iPad and a laptop?
Yes, in any modern browser. On a phone or iPad, add it to the Home Screen and it opens like an app. On a laptop or the gym's desktop the controls move into a rail down the side and the Board shows every skill in one table.
For club directors
How much will it cost a club with eight teams?
Nothing during the beta, for every team and every coach. When paid plans start, every beta club hears at least 30 days ahead, one team will always be free, and you can export all of your data at any time.
Who can see our players' data? Most of them are minors.
Only the staff you invite, and an admin can limit a coach to the teams you give them. A parents' link shows a leaderboard and nothing else, and you can turn it off at any time. Tally never trains on your data, and the privacy policy covers players under 18.
Can coaches use their own phones?
Yes. Each coach signs in on their own phone, iPad or laptop in any modern browser, with nothing to install. A coach set as a viewer can read every stat without being able to log anything.
Do players carry over to next season?
Yes. Start a new season from Settings, pick who carries over with their new team and number, and every player's history follows them. Last season stays one tap away, read only.
What happens to our data if we leave?
It is yours. Export all of it at any time, as a spreadsheet of every session or a full backup of the organization, and deleting the organization deletes its data.
See it on your own team.
Create your team, or tap through a sample one first. Free while we finish the beta.
